About the Index & Survey

Recognizing that the mid-Michigan business climate is unique, The Greater Lansing Business Monthly launched the Greater Lansing Business Index in 2003 to assist business owners and managers in assessing the health of the local economy. Instead of relying on state and national figures, these events strive to provide a true picture of the Greater Lansing marketplace.

David G. Sowerby, CFA, of Loomis, Sayles & Company, LP, interprets the Greater Lansing Business Index and provides an analysis of the local economy in the report. The index combines major economic indicators, including employment figures, home sales, manufacturing production, power usage, hotel occupancy and local area stock prices.

A key component of the report is a semi-annual business spending survey, designed and interpreted by Ed Sarpolus of EPIC/MRA.
