December 2008 - Events to Remember

Chris holman - Commentary - The Greater Lansing business monthly

For many of us, one of life’s more enjoyable experiences is attending “events,” going somewhere to celebrate, to learn, to network, to enhance our personal or professional lives.  Events vary greatly, and might include anything from a ribbon cutting—sometimes enjoyable outside on a sunny day but occasionally less so outside in the pouring rain, to a gathering to announce important news, to a lavish fundraiser. The best thing about most events is that they provide a positive atmosphere—and they are fun.

I’ve had an amazing amount of this type of fun during the last 30 years during which I’ve been attending a very large number of events.  I’ve particularly enjoyed the networking that takes place on such occasions.  As a matter of fact, often it feels as if I’m attending a business family reunion.

Here at The Greater Lansing Business Monthly we put together a lot of events.  Along with help from our many sponsors, we organize a number of networking luncheons; the Strategic Business Luncheon; the Business/Sports Luncheon; a trade fair; along with periodic events at which we make major announcements. In general, we believe we do a nice job of planning and implementing these; we also know there is a science to doing this, so we often seek professional outside help to carry it off.  We of course know that the invitations, the event staging and the gathering itself are very important. We also realize that just as important will be the effect that continues well after the event is over. We want those attending to enjoy themselves at the time and definitely want them to reap the rewards of their experience long afterward—if it’s been good for them, it’s been good for us. The overall impact for one’s company and one’s constituents, clients or customers makes every bit of the planning worthwhile.

You will be pleased at the amount of professional support here in the Greater Lansing area, along with the wide variety of venues where events can take place. We’re happy to bring you this month’s issue and happy to be part of this vibrant mid-Michigan business community.  Remember, your marketplace is as good as you make it.

From all of us, as always, have a prosperous month.
