July 2010 - The New City Market

This month’s magazine is all about the new and improved Lansing City Market. The City Market recently reached capacity, which is great news for our area. The folks at the Lansing Entertainment and Public Facilities Authority (LEPFA) have done a great job of providing a new facility that is accessible to all and offers such a wide variety of products.
While I know there are some that cherished the characteristics of the old market, I think everyone would agree that this new facility is much more user friendly, allows for more vendors, is more economically efficient and it sits on a great piece of land along the Grand River. With the additions of a restaurant and commercial/residential developments to this area that are planned for the future, it will definitely become a destination spot for many.
Most importantly, the Lansing City Market is providing a livelihood for all the vendors who offer a variety of delicious, healthy foods, artisan crafts, beautiful flowers and so much more—all grown and made locally, by local people. The sense of community that is being fostered is amazing to witness.
I recently had a chance to go to the City Market to see this community first-hand. What I saw were many outstanding people who are passionate about what they're doing, selling everything from organic broccoli to bread to jewelry. Each was offering food so fresh, much more so than what you’d see in most grocery stores.
We would have loved to feature each and every vendor, but with limited space, we hope this issue gives you a wonderful sampling of some of the items available at the market. It is also a great place to stop in for lunch, offering numerous fresh foods guaranteed to please the masses. We hope you enjoy reading their stories.
On another note, we are excited to announce that Gary Danielson, CBS college sports analyst and former Detroit Lions quarterback will be the featured speaker at the 2010 Greater Lansing Business Sports Luncheon coming up on September 14 at Eagle Eye Golf Club. Be sure to call our office at 517-487-1714 to reserve your tickets today.
Finally, with this being our July issue, on behalf of all of our staff here at The Business Monthly, we hope you have a wonderful summer.
