February 2009 - So Much To Do
My personal love of entertainment spans many, many years back.
As a young child, I can remember going to see Peter, Paul and Mary at Michigan Fest, my mother and grandmother taking me to see The Nutcracker at the Wharton Center and sitting behind the glass at the Breslin Center, watching MSU’s hockey team charge down the ice toward my dad and I.
In this area there are so many great places to go and have a good time, to be entertained. This issue of the Greater Lansing Business Monthly highlights some of those local venues that are unique, amusing and places that truly enrich our lives.
The Wharton Center, for instance, a place that brings the magic of Broadway right to our back doors, has a packed 2009 schedule that includes Rain—A Tribute to the Beatles, Michigan Opera Theatre’s production of Carmen and funny man Robin Williams (page 20).
Talk about funny men! Some who have gone on to greatness have breezed through the doors of Connxtions Comedy Club (page 30). If live theater is your style, this month the Boarshead Theater is offering performances of Driving Miss Daisy. One could take a step back in time with James Joyce’s The Dead, now running at Riverwalk Theatre, or head to the Williamston Theatre to take in the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-In-The-Moon Marigolds (page 38).
Whatever you choose to do, our hope is that it will get you out of the doldrums of winter and check out a show, have a laugh, go ice skating or cheer on your favorite sports team. After all, this is the longest-shortest month of the year.
With optimism,
