February 2006 - Fabulous Furniture

Chris holman - Commentary - The Greater Lansing business monthly

As I write this, we have just experienced the first annual Greater Lansing Business Showcase; and I couldn’t be more pleased and excited. Mayor Virg Bernero presented a real kickoff speech for the business community, a stimulating and positive view of the Greater Lansing business future.  Thank you to David Hollister, former Lansing mayor, for his insight on what’s happening in the area of economic development here in mid-Michigan. The Showcase itself was an outstanding business fair that allowed more than 100 area exhibitors to display their products and their services.

Of course, there are many people to thank for the Showcase’s success. First and foremost, my staff; they wanted this to be a first-class event, and they succeeded through their planning and hard work toward that goal. I thank Dave Surbrook at d/s Events, because they did a great job setting up an inviting, attractive venue.  Thank you to Barb Rinckey who helped us coordinate the entire event, from beginning to end. Our media partners, Unforgettable 1320 WILS,  Mike 101.7 FM , and WILX-TV 10 also deserve a big thank you. Eric Hart and his Lansing Center staff were incredibly helpful, and working with them was a very positive experience.

The feedback from our surveys of the exhibitors indicates they, too, found this a very rewarding experience. We’re expecting the Showcase to grow by at least 50 booths next year, and for it to be an annual event for many years to come.

Another thank you goes to those businesses highlighted in this month’s issue. The furniture we choose for our homes and offices is a reflection of our personal individuality, and these people offer the furniture variety and designing expertise to reveal that. All of the furniture here at The Greater Lansing Business Monthly has been purchased locally, also true for the furniture our family enjoys in our home. There is no reason to leave this marketplace, when the quality and options are so varied and excellent, as you’ll discover as you read this month’s issue.

One more thank you—to you for being a part of The Greater Lansing Business Monthly family and our business community.  Have a prosperous month.
