June 2006 - The Drive to Succeed

Chris holman - Commentary - The Greater Lansing business monthly

Remember your very first car?  Most of us have no difficulty remembering that rite of passage, and if it was anything like my first car, it was very “uncool,” fraught with future expense and frustrations.  However, the feeling of independence still overshadows those drawbacks in my recollections.

My first was a 12-year-old VW Beetle. Two important details to remember for this car: Either park on a hill or bring along a strong and willing passenger to push, as it had to be coaxed to start. My second car, acquired when I graduated from college,  had been my grandfather’s—need I say more? Still pretty “uncool,” but serviceable at least. Fortunately, as time went on, my experience with cars became not only easier, but also more exciting. What a welcome change to choose a brand new car. To think that it is possible to own a car about which I never have to be concerned: This beauty will start immediately, it’ll run without difficulties, I’m proud to park it in front of my house—and now, it even tells me how to get where I plan to go. My ownership choices and purchases have come a long way, and I couldn’t be happier!

Choosing a car is often a challenge for people in one way or another.  How big or small? What make suits me best? What color? Go for good mileage or strictly for pizzazz?! Buy or lease? The people featured in this issue will be able to help you answer those questions and many more. Our Greater Lansing area has a wide variety of automobile choices, along with dedicated and knowledgeable dealers to help you through making those numerous decisions.

Not only are these individuals very good at their business, they are also very good at promoting the Greater Lansing area and supporting many of its worthwhile causes. They may be competitive in the marketplace, but they are a cohesive group of people when it comes to supporting activities that better our community and its citizens.

We hope you’ll enjoy checking out the feature articles nearly as much as actually browsing their showrooms filled with the newest and most exciting automobile and truck models.

And, as always, we wish you a very prosperous month!
